KUWAIT BADMINTON LEAGUE The Indian Badminton Association Kuwait (IBAK) in association with Kuwait Badminton (KB), the only recognized and appellate body governing badminton in Kuwait and affiliated to the Ministry of Youth and sports, Kuwait; is holding its fifth Kuwait Badminton League (KBL), which is the National badminton league of Kuwait. The tournament will be held during the month of September 2019.

We have six teams competing in playoff of KBL 2019, around 100 top badminton players representing a wide variety of nationalities, and from among those who play daily in various clubs across Kuwait will take part in this tournament.

Kuwait Badminton League (KBL) is the premier and only professional badminton league in Kuwait. Indian Badminton Association Kuwait (IBAK) in association with Kuwait Badminton (KB) had conceived the idea of a league in 2015 and successfully completed its fourth consecutive year in 2018. Kuwait Danish Diary (KDD) has been the title sponsor of Kuwait Badminton League for all these 4 years


The KDD Kuwait Badminton League 2015, the first edition of KBL had 8 teams and had 3 playoffs; the playoffs were played in the months of February, May and September 2015. The Teams participated in 2015 edition are Super Smashers, Lions, Shuttle Dragons, Rainbow Archers, Royal Phoenix, Thanjai Ninjas, Acme Acers & Scorpions.

120 top players from across different clubs in Kuwait were auctioned into each team in January 2015. Team Lions, Team Shuttle Dragons and team Super Smashers were the respective playoff winners and Super Smashers emerged the overall champion of KDD – KBL 2015. Shuttle Dragons were the first runner up while Rainbow Archers and Team Lions came in second and third runner up respectively. The 2015 edition was a roaring success from both, player participation, spectators & sponsorship perspectives.

The KDD Kuwait Badminton League 2016 had two playoffs in the month of February and September 2016. Total Six teams owned by IBAK members, and sponsored by individuals/corporates, participated in the 2016 edition. The teams participated in 2016 edition are Scorpions, Loins, Rainbow Archers, Shuttle Dragons, Thanjai Ninjas, Acme Acers

The Scorpions won the 2016 KDD – Kuwait Badminton League Championship winning both the September 2016/ February 2016 playoffs. Team Shuttle Dragons were the first runners-up and ACME Acers were second runners- up. KDD KBL 2016 had two playoffs; February and September.


Top 102 players from across different clubs in Kuwait were auctioned into each team in January 2016. The KDD – KBL 2016 featured 20 top international players who added to the competitiveness of the league. The KDD–KBL was a fantastic opportunity for players where senior/ international players helped and played with junior players and experiences and expertise were shared across. The 2016 league saw addition of two categories to the tie under – 15 and Ladies doubles.

The KDD – Kuwait Badminton League 2017 was held on the 17th, 30 November and 1st December 2017 at IBAK Gym, Salwa. The Team Scorpions lifted the Championship defeating Team Challengers 3-0 in the finals. The Scorpions remained unbeaten throughout the league. Team Challengers were the 1st runner up and Rainbow Archers and Royal Phoenix were the semifinalists. The league consisted of six teams that are Scorpions, Challengers, Rainbow Archers, Royal Phoenix, Thanjai Ninjas, Five Stars & Super Smashers and was played in a round robin/ knockout format. Each tie had 5 matches – singles, two open doubles, one advance doubles and a mixed doubles.

KDD-IBAK Kuwait Badminton League 2018 was concluded in September 2018 with the best team holding up the championship trophy crushing five other teams- the “Super Smashers”. The final witnessed high voltage action against “The Sabres”. It was indeed a battle of nerves between both the teams and finally Super Smashers emerged victors with a 3-0 lead.

The 2018 league consisted of six teams, Super Smashers, Sabres, Golden Eagles, Challengers, White Feathers & Thanjai Ninjas and was played in a round robin/knockout format. Each tie had five matches, one singles, two open doubles, one advance doubles and a mixed doubles. Top 102 players who practice across different clubs in Kuwait were auctioned into each team during the first week of September 2018.

The Thanjai Ninjas are the only team to have featured in all 4 editions thus far and Thanjai Ninjas & Scorpions are confirmed for the 5th edition (2019) as well.
